Ray's books have been life-changing for many, many people. I always wanted to meet him also. I've known his name for many years. I remember when he was disfellowshipped. I heard it from a cousin of mine that had been at Bethel. My cousin's world was shattered when that happened. And then Ray wrote the books. A truly, truly courageous man. Thank you Ray Franz. Prayers for Cynthia.

Circ. Ass. Last Weekend...oh boy!
by tresdecu inso i had to suffer through the ca last weekend, it was rough at 1st, i was actually sick to my stomach the night before, fortunately my little boy kept me occupied during the session and i got to walk around a lot.. the do cracked down on 'true christians' watching vampire movies aka....twilight.
i know this series is hugely popular with a lot of teens and 20somthings, even a young elder and his wife (mostly the wife) are really into them.. he said true christians just don't watch such things.

I'm a nurse and I feel sorry for them too. They have such strong beliefs even though they are wrong. I sympathize with that.

Planted a seed today... Update on de-program of my 16 year old son
by Aussie Oz inwell, some of you know that i have a 16 year old son who lives with his jw mother.
she has already mastered the art of guilt control on him.
i am most anxious that he not get baptized at all or at least unless he has really understood the whole truth, not just the watchtower truth.

Aussie, I agree with Gayle. Your kids are going to thank you and you will have a close relationship with them the rest of your lives. Outstanding!

Good article. Very interesting. "No gold rimmed glasses" would not surprse me in the least. That would be "bringing attention to yourself".

Are You Still attending Meetings? If so read on.......
by cantleave inok - i couldn't keep away from this board - but i lasted longer than a week (outlaw!).
here i am sitting in the sun on a beautiful sunday afternoon drinking beer catching up with the posts on this board.
i just had to write a message to anyone still attending meetings, despite knowing that they are a forum to propagate lies and deceit.

Fear of being shunned
by alfmel infor those who have been jws and left,.
1. how much did you delay your departure due to the fear of being shunned?.
2. what percentage of the congregation would you estimate remains active due to the fear of being shuned if they were to leave?.

I agree with Isaac J22 and OTWO. But everybody's circumstances are different.
I do believe when I look back on my parents that the last several years before my father died suddenly they were only staying somewhat active to avoid shunning by my mother's very active family. It's such a shame that my father wasted those years putting on a charade out of fear. We could have used that time for building our own family relationships.

How did you find the strength to leave?
by SAHARA into all of you exjws, i'm sure you've been asked this question one way or the other many times and i'm sure the answer is different for many of you, i'd like to know directly from you never having a chance to hear or read many exjw's answers to this.
knowing that you would be cut off from your family and friends and other consequences for your decision to leave, how did you ever get the strength to do it?
i mean really, i find it fascinating to know that there are so many of you who were at one time very devout, if not at the very least loyal to one of the most successful mind-contol organizations ever who believed all if not most of what the society taught and still you found the courage to risk everything once you accepted that it isn't what it claims to be.

I didn't have the strength to stay. I would have killed myself if I had kept going to meetings and being a JW. I chose to live and that meant divorcing everything JW. I was young. I didn't have a spouse or children. My mother's family were all JWs. My father's were not. I knew I had one life and I was going to live it the way I chose to not how some religious nutcase organization told me to.
Of course, there are things that are sad but it would have been sadder to have stayed.
